The European Union (EU) has established an agricultural product quality policy called Geographical Indications (GI) that promotes and protects names of quality agricultural products and foodstuffs from misuse and imitation. Among them, PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) certified products are produced, processed and prepared in a given geographical area using recognized expertise.
A three-year project of promoting the GI system and leading PDO products, Prosciutto di Parma, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and Port & Douro Wines funded by the EU, the governments of Italy and Portugal, was launched in Japan in 2008. Asahi Agency conducts a wide variety of promotional activities including PR, trade relations, sales promotions, advertising, and market research.
Result:
Attractive and detailed exposure across a wide range of the major consumer magazines was achieved through media relations initiatives.
800 demos of in-store activities take place annually to directly promote products to Japanese consumers.
