Conveying the fun of sports to children is the principle guiding
Franklin Sports, the world's leading manufacturer of batting
gloves and other top sports equipment, which recently continued
its series of free baseball clinics in Japan. With the support
of the Somei Area Sports Association, the "Franklin/O'Malley
Baseball Clinic" was held January 26 in Okayama featuring
former major leaguer and Japan league star Tom O'Malley.O'Malley,
now a special batting coach for the Hanshin Tigers, and other
former Japanese professional players instructed over 270 youths
and coaches on the basic fundamentals of pitching, batting
and fielding. With the event held for the first time in Okayama,
also the site of the Tigers' fall training camp, it also drew
several hundred baseball fans. The large turnout and the enthusiasm
of both the instructors and future stars made the event a
great success.
